What Would it Take… Death
“What would it take for you to say, ‘screw it, I’m done here.” - a Worker here with me
“For which of you, desiring to build a tower, does not first sit down and count the cost, whether he has enough to complete it? Otherwise, when he has laid a foundation and is not able to finish, all who see it begin to mock him. Saying, ‘This man began to build and was not able to finish.’” - Luke
What would it take for me to say I quit on something I feel like the Lord has called me to. I have thought about this before, especially after reading about martyrs that never saw fruit in their lives. I remember reading about the ones that had a lot of impact on the earth but struggled daily. Some even packed their few belongings in coffins before arriving in their country.
What would it have taken for them to quit, step back and say this isn’t it. That question is easy because those workers’ story is written, and I get to look at their choices. All of them said death; that’s how many did quit. Is that really quitting, though? Haha. I honestly look to one of my favorite workers, Lilian Trasher.
She moved to Egypt, and even after her death, she still impacts that country. Even she had a point of looking back and asking, “can I really do this, Lord?” what did it take for her to almost throw in the towel; I suggest you read her book to find out.
It’s been two months since I arrived in Kyrgyzstan. So can I confidently say what would it take for me to up and leave and be finished… no. I really don’t know; what I do know is that I was never promised an easy life. I knew this wasn’t going to be easy. I’m 24 years old now. Did I have expectations of doing crazy big things for the Lord? Yes! Do I need to remove those expectations? No! Instead, I’ll
“Trust in the Lord with all my heart,” - Proverbs 3:5-6
“Count it all joy, my brothers…” - James 1:2-4
“If any of you lack wisdom, let him ask God…” - James 1:5-8
“Not be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer…” - Philippians 4:6
None of these are easy by any means, but I hope ya’ll see unique ways you can be praying for me. Kyrgyzstan has been amazing, but will challenging situations and times come? Yes! So join me in prayer for this country, these people, and the workers (me included) here.
